The historian Luigi Suttina

SUTTINA, LUIGI (Trieste, 1883 - Roma, 1951)

Historian, Librarian

Luigi Suttina was Librarian of the Civic Library of Udine from 1913 to 1914. He performed prestigious positions in public administrations and he was interested in the history and literature of Friuli, becoming the promoter of important cultural initiatives and associations. His passion for art was evident even during the Second World War, when he commissioned the photographer Brisighelli to take two shoots of the “Golden Cross of Gisulfo” (a famous Lombardic work of art preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Cividale del Friuli) in order to reproduce it in the volume “Cividale” by Carlo Cecchelli of 1943.
